introducing my bb puffies!

Okay, I'm finally gonna talk about my little fishys. I have no idea when I started harbouring the idea of keeping pets of my own, but fish sounded like the perfect no-mess and not-much-attachment pets, cause I didn't have experience of taking care of any living thing on my own.

On 13th April, the day before my birthday, dino and I went to Qian Hu to pick out our new pets. The yellow puffers caught my attention, and they were quite cheap. We bought 5 of them and so they started their lives in my home! At that time, we were quite naive and kept them in a glass bottle from IKEA. For the first few days, they refused to eat anything and the uneaten food sank into the bottom of the glass bottle, clouding & dirtying the water. After 3 days I think, 2 of them died :/

I grew quite frustrated and was all ready to give up on them. They weren't eating, the water was dirty, and they were dying one by one! :( So dino and I made a pact that if all 3 of them manage to survive one more night, we'll make sure we take good care of them and find them food they will actually eat (LOL). Yah and miraculously, when I checked on them the next morning, none died.

With the help of my 'fish expert' dad (take a look at the large standing fish tank in background!), an existing tank was pulled out from the storeroom and reused. Now, the fishes are all doing very well and we bought another 3 to join the existing 3. All 6 now live happily! My family members adore them too.

fish fingers ♥

Yesterday's lunch, bacon/shiitake mushroom/garlic aglio olio with fish fingers. The masterchef in me attempted to make the dish's presentation appealing. And while I'm not sure if I would want others to try my concoctions, it tasted delicious to me.

The reason for this dish stemmed from the "horror of the fridge". I got a huge shock when I looked into the fridge in the morning cause there were so many things inside! And they were mostly repeated. Yes. 2 large packets of shiitake, nearly 1kg (3.5 packets) of bacon, 3 types/boxes of fish fingers, 4 or 5 rows of yakult, 5 tubes of egg tofu. And mind you, my place doesn't house 10 hungry dinosaurs.

Then, I opened the pasta drawer and found 5 types of pasta.. regular fettuccine, spinach fettuccine, angel hair pasta, regular spaghetti, conchiglie (shell-shaped pasta). Pasta overload! Though I'm sure some people (you know who I'm referring to) would think instead, that all the pasta was heaven-sent.

Anyway, I was looking through the career recruitment web for Singapore Zoo/Wildlife Reserves Singapore and I really really want the job of Junior Keeper (Zoo Keeper!!!!). But it's a permanent position, and I'm not able to commit. Any other more plausible alternatives would be customer service or operations positions. Then again, if none of the universities I applied for accept me, that is probably what I want to try for a year first. How awesome is it to be working with animals instead of people?! Taking care of my puffies made me realise how happy and rewarding it is to be entrusted with the life of another living thing. I'd really like to be given a chance to try it :)

Plainly;

Fine, I admit it. I'm the master of procrastination. Numerous times I've told myself that this blog deserves a proper update but it's always a "quick one" so as to speak.

All I do nowadays is relax at home, feed & stare at my fishies (I will blog about them someday!), watch TV (loads and loads of Masterchef), then head out for dinner (on most days). To me, this feeling of relaxation kinda feels like the calm before a storm. Because I'm truly not prepared for what lies ahead in my future! Time to stop procrastinating in all aspects of my life and start getting geared up.

Unfortunately, it's very late rn and my body always seem to slow down after 2am. Need. Some. Rest. I can literally feel the effects of sleeping late and it's taking a toll on my body :( Shall continue writing tomorrow morning, then. Good night :}
